Covid 19 Social Distancing Guidelines

Having performed a risk assessment we believe we have come up with a set of guidelines that will help us to reasonably minimise the transmission of the virus within the Grafton Dance Centre.

The Main Ballroom will, where possible, be utilised for larger group classes which would otherwise be restricted in numbers were they to remain in the Rear Studio. Ballroom and Latin Teachers will, at times, be required to use the rear studio for private lessons in order to facilitate group classes/hires that are operating in the Main Ballroom.

The current situation will be in place for the foreseeable future, reviewed and adjusted as Government Guidelines change.

All Visitors

  • If you or members of your household / bubble show symptoms of Covid 19, or are in isolation due to being in contact with someone with the symptoms, please do not attend Grafton Dance Centre. (GDC)
  • All visitors entering the premises must take a measure of responsibility for themselves and to others to help us reduce the further spread of infection.
  • Hand Sanitisers will be available as you enter GDC (but it would be very much appreciated, and assist us to maintain the current fees, if patrons were to bring their own supply) and should be used on arrival.
  • In order to allow for maximum ventilation, the Studio door can remain open so long as the occupants feel it is safe to do so. However, due to GDC’s location within a residential area the doors will not be permitted to remain open after 6pm (British Summer Time) or sunset (Greenwich Mean Time). Furthermore, the doors must not be left open without the individual responsible for the Studio at that time, being present and visible. GDC is not responsible for any loss of personal items incurred by visitors and or Teachers/Group Hire Instructors.
  • The small Kitchenette area of the Main Ballroom is for Teachers/Group Hire Instructors only and not to be used by those attending Classes. Individuals who bring their own refreshments please ensure you make use of the bins provided and refrain from leaving disposable cups out for others to clear up.
  • As we understand it, the wearing of masks is only advisory and will therefore be a matter for the individual Teacher and their Pupil to decide on how they wish to proceed as will Group Hire Instructors.
However, it is also important to consider that Government Guidelines state-
"All forms of face coverings may restrict breathing efficiency and should not be used during exercise except on specific advice from a physician"
For further guidance and clarification please refer to "Working Safely during Coronavirus (COVID 19), Providers of grassroots sports and gym/leisure facilities".
See Section 7, titled Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and face coverings. (For reference - see link below)
  • It will not be a requirement for attendees of GDC to sign in or out or leave personal details, however, please note that you may be approached by your Teacher/Class Instructor if the owner of GDC is contacted by Test and Trace Officials.
  • Bathroom facilities will be cleaned regularly by GDC. Please wash your hands/use sanitiser before and after using the bathrooms.
  • Attendees to GDC should arrive no more than 10 minutes before their lesson/class and leave within 10 minutes of it finishing. Please, where possible, be dressed for the lesson/class and keep the use of the changing areas to a minimum.
  • Where attendees do arrive early, weather permitting, we would ask you to wait outside whilst maintaining social distancing.
  • We would request that only one adult accompany those children (16 years or under) who are attending GDC for private dance lessons. For those children attending classes under the jurisdiction of Dulwich Ballet School for example, should take guidance as directed from the Ballet School representatives. Those adults that accompany children should maintain social distancing wherever possible.
  • Pupils/attendees of GDC are requested to wait in the alcove area of the Studio as indicated until called onto the floor by their teacher - please maintain social distancing wherever possible.

Teachers/Group Hire Instructors

  • Teachers/Group Hire Instructors are asked to wash their hands/use sanitiser between lessons.
  • Teachers/Group Hire Instructors are asked not to book lessons back to back but to instead leave a minimum 15 minute gap between lessons/classes
  • Teachers/Group Hire Instructors are requested to clean their immediate work and high contact areas after the completion of their hire period – bringing their own wipes would assist in keeping costs to a minimum.
  • GDC does not provide, nor is responsible for, the cleaning of Hirer’s equipment such as mats/blocks/ballet bars. Attendees to Group Classes should be encouraged to bring their own mats/blocks.
